Description
By 1857 the Large Cent (and Half Cent) was abandoned due to the rising cost of copper and unpopularity by the urban populations. The Flying Eagle Cent was a transitional cent, being produced only 3 years (1856-1858). There were 17, 450,000 produced at the Philadelphia Mint in 1857.

This particular coin shows heavy wear, with design and legend visible, although it can be faint in spots. The eagle is outlined, but virtually no detail remains. Rim wear is evident and is worn into tops of letters in the legend. On the reverse, the wreath shows in outline and exhibits slight detail. Leaves and bow are flat. Your cent collection is incomplete without this variety.
